Broody Hens Are In A Hurry

"Broody" is the term for a chicken that is incubating her eggs. For 21 days, she will only leave the nest to do the essentials: eat, stretch, flex, drink, urinate/defecate, take a dirt bath, scratch, preen, etcetera. She only has 5-10 minutes to do all of that...so their actions are extreme for those few minutes:
"wings down" means back off!!!

My oldest hen is a 'gallo-gallina'. Her name is Reddy.
She has spurs and is vicious...but she is a great mother.

Skake and fluff up

...fluff and shake and fluff and shake...wiggle, flap, screech
(in that order)

flap, flex and screech!!!
Sitting on eggs messes up the stomach feathers.
