Everybody calls him "Gallo" (except me...I call him Gabriel Giro) |
I wanted some fresh, natural eggs to eat. My friend, Gabriel, brought me two hens...but they didn't lay any eggs. Weeks went by...but, no eggs. I told Gabriel that we still had no eggs. He said "you need a rooster". The rooster he brought me was beautiful. Immediately, people asked me "do you know what that is???"... I replied "yes, that is a rooster". They told me "THAT's a Gallo Giro!!!"
Soon, I realized that I had been lucky. Gabriel had brought me the very best chickens...and pretty soon, I found my first egg in the nestbox.
I was so excited. But, it occurred to me that there was too much time and money invested...the egg was too valuable to be eaten! So we let it stay in the nest and started the cycle that repeats itself over and over...That was three years ago.
Yesterday, of 14 eggs...
5 did not hatch...2 died while hatching...2 died within 24 hours...
and these 5 will continue...
