Dedication:

This blog is dedicated to my late Mother, who survived Cancer for nearly eleven years...She is still the inspiration for all that I do!

Donnie

He was named Donnie by my wife. She kept him alive when he should have died. He was very sick and weak and his mother went crazy when he needed her the most. She would stay with him in the daytime but not at night...he almost froze to death...so we kept him in the house for a week or so. Then he got to be with his mom in the daytime only. And little by little he was able to stay with her constantly. About a week after that she made him 'move out'. He's been 'on his own' ever since. He's only about 7/8 grown. He is just starting to grow spurs. He's already crowing and chasing the big guy's women. His youth is almost over.

El Rojito...The Little Red One (His name is DiDi)

This is one of my first posts...it is about DiDi...My next post will be the finished tribute to him...but this is a good place to start:
So far I've had about 30 roosters...
this is the first red one...and he is so pretty. My wife didn't believe me when I told her "that's a rooster...NOT a hen". So she insisted on naming the little red one Diane...after her best friend. Well...Diane is a rooster and we now call him DiDi. He is impossible to photograph because he won't let you get close to him. I can't believe I just got these pictures...he is much more colorful than the photos show. He is about 3/4 grown. He has really long legs and he is darker black than the other roosters. He has almost no crest on top of his head. He is one of a kind. How lucky can a chicken rancher be?
Footnote: 5 coyotes just came through the yard...no losses...
not even a feather!!!

For Melissa (wherever she may be)

I had this friend once...her name was Melissa
...she loved roosters.
I wonder where she is...
I've taken thousands of pictures...but these 'orbs' aren't in any of them.
There are at least fifty in this picture. I'm mystified.

...now, the orbs are gone...

...no orbs again...

...now they're back.About twenty in this one...

...shaking my head in disbelief...
What are these balls of light?
Why aren't they in any other pictures?
I don't use my camera in the rain...so I don't know what it is.
(Melissa???)

Forbidden Knowledge

It's no secret any longer:
