Sunrise...Shine down on me

I believe that if God had really meant for us to see the Sunrise...
that he would have scheduled it later in the day.

A different king arrives

Yesterday, there was another kingsnake in the chicken coop. This was not 'the return of' the snake that was here two days ago. This was a very healthy snake that was well fed. I relocated it to the 'usual' burrow without incident.

Let's be friends!

Okay...
I know there must be a lot of reasons why we shouldn't be friends.
But...at the moment...I can't remember any of them...
Can you???

Have you ever lost a friend?

Losing a friend is a very sad thing. In the past three days, I have lost 4 baby chicks...1 teenage chick...2 adult roosters and possibly a few hens. Any loss is tough to endure...friend or pet...but, not knowing what happened to them makes it even worse. Many of these simply disappeared. I do not know where they went.
When you have brand new baby chicks, you can easily start thinking about life in a very idealistic way. You just never imagine them being gone. You only want to protect them...so, when tragedy strikes...it can be very overwhelming. Just like losing a close friend...
So, A new morning has dawned and the wheel of life keeps on turning...for us and hopefully for the missing ones, too!

Another visitor

I have a couple of nest boxes in the carport. They sit on a bench. Yesterday, there was a commotion and when I got there, this is what I found. There was a big Gopher Snake in one of the nest boxes. They eat eggs. I guess I got there before any damage was done. The snake tried to hide behind a bunch of stuff...but, I could not oblige him. I released him into a safe burrow...far away.
It is a very snakey year.
Be warned!

It looks fun...

Appearances can be deceiving...
A bunch of chickens and roosters can look like total fun and a great time to be had by everyone. But, that is only part of it. There is a great amount of joy. But, yesterday was a sad day. Two beautiful chicks disappeared in the nighttime. At around 10:00am I witnessed a 'teenage' chick get killed by the neighbor's dog. Another mother lost her only baby sometime around noon. It might have been taken by a hawk. It was there one minute...and then a half hour later, it was nowhere to be found. And tonight, I was completely saddened when this rooster didn't come in. I searched everywhere. I couldn't find any evidence of his demise. He might be hiding somewhere...but, I doubt it. Tomorrow, I will do a more thorough search. I took these pictures of him a few days ago...he was very beautiful...
