I Red the News today...(oh, rooster)

He is like a stranger
that drifted into town...
he still doesn't have a name...
but, he answers to 'Red'
Only 10 months old...
and in the sunlight
he is the color of blood.
Like wet enameled feathers
dark maroon.

Another Band Of Color

Morning light show
They don't last long...but, they are beautiful.
Color on color...
Rooster on dawn.
The horizon is a prism
and, the daybreak becomes
Magenta Morning.
Life is a color wheel.
Spin it
and make rainbows...

Breakfast

The food around here is always the best...
but, the cafeteria is really nice also.
It has a great view and lots of room.
It makes me hungry just thinking about it...

Back To The Beginning

After six years, all of these chickens and roosters are still a thrill to be around. Sometimes it seems like a blur...sometimes they all look alike. Sometimes, it seems like time has stopped...and there is only the sound of 'click, cluck, click, cluck'...
But, sometimes it seems like my first days with these guys...in fact, this rooster is starting to look like my very first rooster. He doesn't have a name yet...AKA the rooster that looks like KiKiRi! That was a noble bird and a great start to all of this. I hope this guy can reach his potential and keep the magic going. To be beautiful and dangerous...at the same time. It's got to be easier than juggling...

The Magical Levitating Rooster

A long time ago, I learned about the legend of the Great Levitating Rooster. This was a bird that was so mighty that he could fly without flapping his wings. The legend describes the great bird that had a Heart of a warrior and an unbending Will to never give up. When the mighty bird met its fate, it realized it was dying. But, it did not know how to let go. So, the great rooster left its Body on the ground while its Spirit floated out of it...and up towards the sky. The Spirit of the great rooster is still alive but it is trapped between this realm and the 'other side'. Someday, the Soul of this bird will tear through the fabric of Time/Space and finally complete its journey across the void of Nothingness. It will land safely back into the Dream from which he came and like a memory, it will sleep in the nest of our Heart until one day...we see him flying across the skies of our Mind.
Then, at that moment...we can be sure that another dream has hatched...and we are in it!
So, this must be a dream...look at this:

I Don't Pine Over You

We have a pine tree and sometimes it is full of chickens and roosters. Most of the time it is 'empty'...but, today it was the place to be. I don't know if the birds are smoking pine needles or sniffing the vapors off of the pitch...something has got their attention. I doubt if it has anything to do with the camera(photo op). They don't care...pictures are the past! Roosters think it's exactly now-o'clock and that this is the moment...That makes sense to me!
(I'll be in the pine tree)

Brownie

We had a black rooster named Jet. He was killed earlier this year. But, all is not lost. Here is a little bit of legacy...this is Brownie. Jet was his father. Brownie is about 7 months old...he is already very rowdy. That means he is really pushing his luck because there are plenty of older, full grown roosters here that can give him some perspective. I hope it doesn't come to that. He was solid black until 2 months ago. He's a pretty colorful rooster. His wings are all black and that looks cool. The problem is that he hates the camera and is impossible to get good pictures of.
