Weekend Wind Up

The 4th Of July weekend is in its fourth quarter...
Everyone is tired. But, it's just another day...
The injured raven is still alive...
and I saw only one rattlesnake today.
It was super active and very green...
I didn't get a picture.

The Second Half

Is it possible to do nothing for four days?
Well, there's two days left...so, we're only halfway.
Most of us don't want or need four days off from the regular routines. It only puts us farther behind in our responsibilities and that's even worse if you have days off without wages. So, it may be a holiday...but, we don't need to waste it. Put the time to good use. A rooster never takes a day off. There is too much that must be done. Like the things that make him a rooster. It's a thrill to be alive...but, to be excited by your obligations to the point of such daily enthusiasm might be a hopeful prospect. We could call it happiness...
(as long as we don't grow feathers)

Another rattlesnake was here this morning...

High Rez

These pics are a couple of weeks old...
They are from my new camera that I haven't learned how to use. So, everything was on 'auto' settings and I'm just trying to get familiar with the feel of it. These aren't too bad for my first attempts. I know that the camera is capable of much more. I want to reach the camera's potential. I think the difference will be obvious.

Symbol Of Freedom

What is Freedom?
It is represented all around us in many forms. It is dialog on TV and radio. It is illustrations on flags and money. It is fireworks on the fourth of July. It is what exists in a text-book when we are learning history.
All symbols and expressions of freedom are meaningful. But, for me, there is just one that is the best. It is seeing animals in their Natural habitats. And that's why my roosters are the greatest symbols of Freedom. Most chickens and roosters have to live in enclosed spaces. Not mine...these birds are in their full glory when they are free. With all of the predators, that's a lot more dangerous...but, it's a better life and if it happens, it's a Freedom death. In that regard, we should all understand what Freedom really is...Happy Independence Day!
Be safe!

Red On Black...and Tall

There is no denying it...All of my birds are beautiful. At adulthood, most of the roosters look the same and share similar colors. But, there are a few color schemes that are different. This is one of them. I have had over 200 roosters since I started...this is only the fifth one with this color variation. He also has very long legs. He will be taller than normal. And, he is beautiful.
Another variation is all black. I have a baby rooster that might be all black. His name is "Brownie"...the son of Jet(R.I.P.).

This is Brownie...he might turn all black. Jet was his father.

Wicked Sky

Sometimes, no words can convey the feelings stirred by Nature.
The sky was like that this morning...

Raven Lunatic

Am I crazy?
I hope not!
I have spent the last two days caring for a baby raven that has two broken legs. I found him trying to use his wings to crawl around. His injuries are severe. But, I have done this once before with a chicken. I cannot predict what will happen...
but, I won't give up on him...
oh, and there was another rattlesnake...
